Jazz et musique improvisée en Franche-Comté (édition 2009)

Le Triton is a municipal concert venue and associative café in Les Lilas, just outside Paris, in Seine-Saint-Denis (93). Such venues are in virtually every city in the suburbs of Paris, even quite small ones, and the suburban départements organize festivals, such as the Sons d'Hiver jazz festival, with concerts in each city's theater. Moreover, the cities' MJCs offer practice space, music lessons, band management and concert promotion services, even stage presence coaching to local acts. If Massachusetts favored arts funding over upper-class tax cuts, such initiatives would be possible through more Mass Cultural Council support. Unfortunately, Massachusetts spends just $3.50 per resident on the cultural sector, and MassCreative's advocacy goal is just $5 per resident. France's minister of culture spends 11 billion per year (157 euros per resident), and separate local and European funds add even more to that total.
